FOREIGN LANGUAGE TRAINING AS A COMPONENT OF PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCY OF FUTURE SPECIALISTS OF MARITIME INDUSTRY

Abstract

The article states that the success of the professional activity of future maritime specialists depends on the level of foreign language training. It is determined that an important component of the professional competency of maritime specialists is English language knowledge, that is stipulated by international regulatory documents. The working conditions of maritime specialists that require a high level of Maritime English are characterized.
It is found that at the current stage of the maritime industry development, training of competent specialists who are able to work effectively, communicate with ship crew members and use knowledge, skills and abilities in professional sphere is necessary.
The author emphasizes that the need for motivation plays an important role in achieving significant results in the process of Maritime English learning. The most powerful motivating factors that encourage future maritime specialists to learn English are characterized: the opportunity to get a job in a foreign shipping company, work in a multinational crew, the opportunity to be successfully promoted etc.
It is noted that at the current stage of maritime education development, teachers need to implement new methods of improving the system of training specialists.
The author of the article draws attention to the use of case technology in the process of foreign language training of maritime specialists, which is an effective form of studying and analyzing real professional situations.
The successful work experience of English language teachers of Kherson State Maritime Academy who use the case method in the process of teaching the discipline "Business English" is stated.
The creation and implementation of a virtual educational environment, which realizes not only competency-based, but also communicative approaches, is considered.
