SOCIO-CULTURAL ACTIVITIES OF SCHOOL LIBRARIES IN PRESERVING NATIONAL MEMORY: UKRAINIAN-POLISH CORRELATIONS

Abstract

The article examines the potential of the socio-cultural activities of school libraries in preserving national memory, Ukrainian identity, and patriotic values, as well as fostering a culture of interstate neighborliness based on Ukrainian-Polish correlations.
Based on statistical data from open sources, a conclusion is drawn regarding the need to reformat the activities of school libraries as a department of educational institutions, since it is this specific unit of the educational facility that can function not only as a book collection or an information center but as an institution of national memory, where the combination of a scientific approach (working with facts) and artistic reflection (working with imagery) lays the foundation for a resilient identity and patriotic self-awareness among student youth. The article provides recommendations for organizing such work, taking into account Ukrainian-Polish correlations.
The practical solutions for organizing school library work proposed in the article will serve to develop media hygiene through the analysis of historical sources, as well as the debunking of propaganda myths. The preservation of national memory and patriotic values will be facilitated by the following forms of work: the organization of discussion platforms and roundtables where students can discuss complex issues of national history based on verified sources; participation in national commemorative events and local history projects that foster a child's awareness of their belonging to a unified national whole; the use of artistic heritage and contemporary war poetry as a tool for emotional and value-based influence on the consciousness of schoolchildren; and cooperation with museums, archives, and public organizations to create joint projects aimed at fostering an active civic position.
